The
following case studies do not represent implemented treatment programs.
They are protocols developed by students in the course of their studies,
and should be taken as examples only.
Note
- Anyone suffering from the conditions described below should seek advice
from a primary health care practitioner. No responsibility is taken for
any individual attempting to use the treatments described in these
studies.
Describe your treatment of your fellow
class mate with acute bronchitis with fever. Classic clinical
presentation. Classic Naturopathic diet.
Description
- Refers to infection or irritation of
the bronchial tree
- Can be bacterial viral or other
During the first few days there is a
harsh and painful cough from upper respiratory tract infection. At first
there is a dry cough but as the lungs produce more mucus in response to
the infection the cough is eased and less painful.
Treatment Goals
- Manage fever
- Sooth inflammation and stimulate
expectoration in early stages
- Maintain expectoration to eliminate
infection
Non-Pharmacological Measures
Diet
Seeing as the student is on a classic
diet there is probably little to add – except lots of nice hot water
based broths.
Other
- Send them home to bed and stay warm
- Provide information on postural
drainage
- Heating pads for chest – mustard
poultice
