Common name: Guaiacum, Lignum vitae (tree of life)

Part used: Heartwood

Active Constituents: Resin acids (guaiaconic, guaianetic, guacic acids), saponins (guaiacosaponin), vanillin, polyterpenoid (guaiaguttin) (4)

Actions: * Peripheral Circulatory Stimulant (6)

    • Antirheumatic, esp chronic/subacute (not acute rheumatism)(6)

Indications: (4)* Chronic Rheumatic conditions

  • Chronic inflammatory degenerative disease (Osteoarthritis – 2)
  • Gout (prophylaxis as well)
  • Cancer

Specific Indication: * Chronic rheumatic complaints (3)

C-I/Caution: Avoid in hypersensitivity, allergic, acute inflammatory conditions(6)
